MIM Vlore was founded in March 2019 as the regional waste management centre in the Waste Zone North Vlore, covering the municipalities of Vlorë and Selenicë. Introduction of sustainable regional waste management practices – sanitary landfill, sorting of recyclables, compost production – goes along with the supply of new municipal waste collection equipment, and is supported by the German-Albanian Cooperation through KfW Development Bank in the framework of the Integrated Solid Waste Management Programme Vlore. The various activities of the Programme are coordinated by the National Agency of Water Supply, Sewerage and
Waste Infrastructure (AKUM). The Programme supports the Albanian National Waste Management Strategy and the harmonisation of Albanian standards with environmental standards of the EU.
