Waste Avoidance

In the waste hierarchy, waste avoidance or prevention is the most favourable mean for waste management.

In your daily life, small steps in your routine to reduce waste, can already make a great difference, some examples are:

    • Avoid or even eliminate single-use plastic by substitute those with long-lasting multi-use products, as:
      • Glass or metal straw instead of plastic straws,
      • Lunch box instead of aluminium foil or cling film,
      • Cotton tote bags instead of single-use plastic bag,
    • Buying products without wrapping, e.g. on the market or chose unwrapped fruit and vegetables in the supermarket
    • Make it last: Instead of throwing damaged items away, try to repair them to reduce waste and save resources
